Deputy FM Abbas Aragchi Meets Turkish Counterpart in Ankara
Islamic Republic's special envoy on Karabagh unveils the new initiative for diplomatic resolution of the Karabagh War in Ankara. Argchi states that the discussions were productive and positive.

Ankara, SAEDNEWS, Oct. 31: Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Envoy of the Iranian President, Sayyed Abbas Araghchi, discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh region’s crisis with the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal in Ankara. "Frank and productive discussion with Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal in Ankara. Iran and Turkey are two major players with an undeniable role in the peace and stability of the region," Araghchi tweeted. The Iranian diplomat arrived in the Armenian capital Yerevan on Thursday night after meeting and consulting with officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia. Iran's special envoy for Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict arrived in Ankara late on Friday on his regional tour, which earlier took him to the Azerbaijan Republic, Russia, and Armenia.

Araghchi embarked on a regional tour on Tuesday, which first took him to Baku and then to Moscow, to present Iran's initiative for solving the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis peacefully.

The dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh started in 1988 and led to military conflict in 1992. Armenia and Azerbaijan resumed clashes on the border between the two countries in early October, each blaming the other for the violence. Nagorno-Karabakh has been a bone of contention between the two countries over the past decades.

In 1994, following four years of military conflict between the two countries, some European and regional governments stepped in to end the territorial dispute between Baku and Yerevan, and a ceasefire was finally established through the mediation of the Minsk Group, consisting of the US, Russia, and France. But international efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully have failed so far (Source: IranPress).
