Holy Shrine of Imam Reza is located at the center of Mashhad City in Razavi Khurasan Province. This Holy Shrine is the burial site for Ali Ibn Musa Al Reza (peace be upon him) the eighth Shia Imam whom Shia and Sunni Muslims salute and sanctify. This sacred site is composed of many mosques, mausoleums, courts, porches, library and museums. The structures of this sacred site dates back to Safavid era, Teimurid era and different historical periods. But in the time of Safavid Shah Tahmasib, many efforts have been made for expansion of the shrine. Thus, this sacred place is the great museum of Iranian architecture.

Sometimes one or two day long trips are made to Mashhad for visiting the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza. For such short visits or the trips for which the pilgrim does not prefer the tour and is interested to regulate his own agenda himself, one needs just to buy a ticket.
