Iran’s economic growth forced US to negotiation table, Rouhani says
President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Iran’s economic growth during the coronavirus pandemic forced the United States to come to the negotiating table in Vienna, as they understood that sanctions against Iran failed.

Tehran, SAEDNEWS: Speaking in a cabinet meeting, Rouhani said that the Central Bank has reported Iran’s economic growth in the Persian Year 1399 (March 20, 2020 - March 20, 2021) to be 3.6, while the average global economic growth was minus 4 in the same period.

He underlined that many big economies shrank in the period by 3 to 15 percent, but Iran managed to grow its economy while the economic terrorism posed by the US against the country had double the hardship made by the pandemic.

The President hailed the resistance and patience of the Iranian nation as the factor that realized the growth.

Referring to the so-called maximum pressure policy of the US which was aimed at crashing Iran’s economy, Rouhani underscored that Iran’s economic growth despite such policies forced the US to come back to the negotiation table in Vienna to return to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

The United States ceased its participation to Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the JCPOA, in 2018 and restored all sanctions on Iran.

Iran and other participants of the JCPOA have been in talks in Vienna for the possible return of the US to the deal. Washington has indirectly participated in the talks.

Rouhani also expressed hope that the remaining disagreements in Vienna talks would be solved and he would deliver the administration to the next Iranian president with sanctions removed.

Iran’s 13th presidential election is set to be held in June 18 (Source: IRNA).
