Joint naval drills; new chapter of Tehran-Islamabad cooperation
The visit of chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces to Pakistan ended with new agreements on the development of defense, security and military relations.

Tehran, SAEDNEWS: Referring to his meetings with senior Pakistani military-political officials, the consultations and agreements reached during the four-day official visit, Major-General Mohammad Bagheri noted: "In addition to reaching an agreement to increase intelligence cooperation to counter-terrorism, it was also agreed to hold joint naval drills in the waters of the two countries.

The Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces also announced the presence of Pakistani warships in the joint Iran-Russia-China exercise, which began two years ago.

Regarding the importance of this visit, the top general stated: "According to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in the Islamic world and also in terms of long borders, Pakistan has a special status in the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Strengthening the military relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan in the current sensitive situation in the region is a necessity that is of strategic importance.

In response to this need, the trips by the Iranian Army's Navy to Pakistan and their reciprocal visits to Iran have increased in recent years, which indicates the solidarity and participation of two important navies to maintain regional stability and develop relations between the two countries.

This cooperation with other countries, including India, China, and Russia, has also been strengthened with the aim of developing maritime relations. Doing such trips has a positive effect on increasing the security of shipping lines and maritime trade in increasing bilateral interactions.

Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Mohammad Hosseini, has said that Pakistan has presented a plan to connect the port of Gwadar to Bandar Abbas in Iran and that a similar plan will be implemented with Oman, the UAE, and Iraq. According to the Pakistani Ministry of Maritime Affairs, an international shipping line will be launched from the ports of Karachi and Gwadar to Iranian ports.

Now, with Iran's membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Iran's relations with Pakistan and other Shanghai member states have found more diverse fields. The geographical scope of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with the presence of two major powers, namely Russia and China, along with Iran's permanent membership in the organization, on the one hand, has a territorial connection and on the other hand, access to the warm waters of the Persian Gulf is provided for all member countries.

Opportunities in this area need to strengthen and support security with the participation of countries in the region. The Strategic Naval Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with their authoritative presence in regional and international waters, have demonstrated their capability in maintaining sustainable security for trade, especially shipping, trade, and oil lines. The Navy's 75th Naval Intelligence-Combat Fleet recently crossed the three Indian, the South Atlantic and the North Atlantic Oceans (Source: IRANPRESS).
