Qom is known as the city of mosques. There are countless mosques and holy sites in this city and this is its key feature. Masjid Jami is one of the most beautiful and oldest mosques in this city.

Qom Congregational Mosque is located in Masjid Jami neighborhood on Azar Avenue near Rey Gate and is one of the significant and valuable places that due to the application of the principles of Iranian architecture are of a considerable majesty and magnificence. As to the history and exact year of construction of Qom Congregational Mosque, there are different theories and ideas. Some historians and archaeologists believe that the date of its construction goes back to 12th century and simultaneous with the rule of Seljuq Kings. Another group of historians and experts of historical problems believe that this mosque was constructed in 879 AD under the supervision of Abu Al Sadim Hassan Ibn Ali Ibn Am Ashari. There is also another narration that suggests that Imam Hassan Asgari Mosque was built upon the order of Imam Hassan Asgari (peace be upon him) and by Imam’s representative in 8th century. This mosque has been always heeded by scholars and great figures. It is one of the unique mosques of Islamic world. Abd Al Jalil Razi has estimated the date of establishment of this historical monument to be traced back to the era of Seljuq Tughril. He believes that a man called Baha Al Din Kamal Thabet Qomi has constructed this valuable and magnificent Iranian mansion.
