Russia scrambles fighter jet to escort US military plane
Russia has ordered one of its fighter planes to escort a US B-1B Lancer that was crossing over the Sea of Japan.

Moscow, SAEDNEWS: Citing Russia’s National Defense Management Center, TASS news agency reported on Sunday that a Russian Mikoyan MiG-31 was scrambled to escort the American bomber to make sure no violations of the Russian state border took place.

The center said the US bomber had not breached the border .

On Friday, one of Russia's military vessels chased away a US destroyer that attempted to violate Russian territorial waters during Russian-Chinese naval drills in the Sea of Japan.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the US destroyer USS Chafee sailed close to the Russian waters in the Peter the Great Gulf.

The Russian Navy’s Admiral Tributs destroyer closely approached the US destroyer and chased it away.

The US, however, denied the incident took place.

Russian forces have frequently experienced encountering US and NATO forces during dangerous and provocative military exercises at sea and in the air near its borders.

In June, Russia said that it had fired warning shots and dropped bombs in the path of a British warship, chasing it away from the coast of Crimea in the Black Sea.

Since the Cold War ended in the 80s and early 90s, it was the first time Russia was using live ammo to ward a NATO warship off.

Tension have been rising between Russia and the West over past years, especially after Crimea rejoined Russia (Source: Press TV).
