Traditional Cloths of Zanjan Province
Zanjan is one of the northwestern provinces of Iran that is located between six provinces: Qazvin province, Ardabil province, East Azerbaijan province, West Azarbaijan province, Kordestan and Hamedan province. Most of people in this province are from Turk tribe and they speak in Azerbaijan-Turkish.

The province has a long history and many remaining cultural-historical attractions have made it one of the touristic regions of Iran. Making many different handicrafts is also popular here. Therefore, there’s something to say about other dimensions of the folklore. Rakhtshoykhaneh complex, located in the heart of Zanjan city, the capital city of this province, that had been a unique public place for women to wash their clothes there, is today converted into a museum for the introduction of the local culture of this province and by visiting this ethnography museum, you can not only recognize the architecture of the building and some rituals of the region, but also find the unique clothing of people in the old Zanjan. Zanjan women wore a dress named Kevink that reaches to the knee and a vest over it named Jelizqa. The rich women used Yal that was a long sleeves coat, instead of the vest. They wear Shaliteh under the Kevink and a thick black piece of fabric under it. The main footwear of women in Zanjan was Ayakh Qabi that was a leather shoes similar to boot. Charoogh is also one of the handmade products of the province that is popular among the footwear of the women. They wore a handwoven woolen socks and use many jewelries along with their clothing. The distinctive scarf of the women is named Yashmaq under which two other pieces were used for keeping the head and hair: Pooshan for keeping the hair and the forehead and Chanalti for keeping Pooshan that was decorated in coins and beads. Zanjan men wore the ordinary suit and a kind of felt hat named Keche Boork is their unique feature that is especially important for them. Charooq, Giveh and two strip shoes are the footwear of Zanjan men which are used based on the season and situation.
