UAE-Iran trade stands $7.3b within 5 months
The trade between United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran reached to around 9.5 million tons valued at 7.303 billion dollars in first five months of the Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2021 to August 22, 2021).

Iran's Customs Administration spokesman RouollahLatifi made the remark on Saturday, noting that the trade exchanges increased 24 percent and 54 percent in terms of weight and value respectively.

According to the official, the Islamic Republic has always attached importance to cooperating with neighboring states in political, economic and security affairs; thus, the regional trade volume experienced significant growth in recent years.

As a result of such a policy, Iran's export to Iraq, Turkey, the UAE and Afghanistan has increased and import from the UAE and Turkey flourished recently, he added.

The UAE purchased 5.7 million tons of commodities worth 1.912 billion dollars from Iran, indicating an increase of 11 percent in terms of weight, Latifi said, adding that Iran's export to other countries stood at 4,474 million tons worth 17.661 billion dollars in the first five months.

Iran's export to the UAE stood at 5.912 million tons worth 1.553 billion dollars in the same period last year, while the numbers declined 15 percent in terms of weight and increased 23 percent in terms of value, he said.

Import from the UAE consists of 32 percent and 32.5 percent of total imports in terms of weight and value respectively, he mentioned, noting that the total volume of imports stood at 13.819 million tons worth 16.631 billion dollars.

Pointing to export commodities to the UAE, he said that dried fruits, fishery products, fruits, dates, vegetables, sweets and chocolates, foodstuffs, spices, minerals, building materials, detergents, handicrafts and carpet, home appliances, electronic appliances, industrial products, music instruments, clothing, bags, shoes and furniture have been among the most exported items from Iran.

Goods such as livestock inputs, productive livestock, seeds, oil, grains, fruits, tea, coffee, spices, sugar, juice, rice, food supplements, minerals, raw materials, machinery, textiles, tire, wood, cupboard, paper, filter were among imported commodities from the UAE, the Iranian customs official noted.

Total foreign trades of Iran stood at 59.3 million tons worth 34 billion dollars in the first five months of the current Iranian year, showing a positive trade balance of exports equivalent to one billion dollars (Source: IRNA).
