We Already Heard Many Promises, This Time Only Action Matters Not Words, Supreme Leader Says
Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution of Iran Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei clearly announces Islamic Republic's stance on JCPOA. "Only action matters not words", Supreme Leader says. Accordingly, only the practical lift of unilateral sanctions can revive JCPOA.

Tehran, SAEDNEWS, Feb. 17: On the anniversary of the Popular Uprising of the People of Tabriz, which took place on February 18, 1978, Imam Khamenei met with people from East Azerbaijan Province via video conference this morning, February 17, 2021. Imam Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, stated in this meeting that the Islamic Republic has heard many words and promises from the other side about the JCPOA. He emphasized that this time only actions matter, and if the Islamic Republic sees actions from Europe and the US, it will act too.

Speaking on Wednesday on the occasion of the anniversary of the historical uprising of the people of Tabriz on February 18, 1978, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said: "The incident of February 18, 1979, was a glorious jihadi and operational incident and is a source of pride for the people of Tabriz, but the honors of Azarbaijan are not limited to this. The range of honors of this city and region is much wider."

He gave some examples in this regard, adding: "One is the issue of elitism in both science and politics. The region of Azarbaijan is elitist. In the last 150 years, this region has been a privileged region in terms of great jurists, scholars and scientists. Elitism in science and art, poets and artists of Tabriz, artists of all kinds of arts in Tabriz, we name an example of the late Shahriar, may God have mercy on him, who were not the only ones."

"In politics, the region has presented prominent personalities in the past and today. This characteristic of Tabriz elitism must be preserved," the leader of the Islamic Revolution said.

"We have always faced foreign enemies. If it were not for Azerbaijan, this aggression could have spread to the central regions of the country," he added.

He greeted the people of Tabriz and Azarbaijan and marked the historic and unforgettable day of February 18, which was held this year due to necessity via videoconferencing, saying: "Every year in this Hosseiniyah, we were happy with your presence, dear people, and the passionate atmosphere that was created. This year, unfortunately, this is not possible, and this is one of the various life events that we hope will be removed soon."

"Congratulations on the arrival of the month of Rajab to all of you dear ones and the people of Iran, and I hope that everyone will benefit from the spiritual blessings of this month. Yes, there are no congregations in this month, and what was possible for the people every year is not in the congregations of worship and remembrance this year, but the prayers of the month of Rajab should not be neglected in the houses, and this temporary closure of congregations should not deprive them of the blessings of this month," Ayatollah Khamenei noted.

"I believe that if it were not for the epic movement of the Tabrizi people on February 18, 1978, the bloody movement of the people of Qom might have remained on January 9 and would have been gradually forgotten. Like the movement of 1953, at which point it was forgotten," he stressed.

"These three characteristics, namely courage, zeal, and religiosity, showed themselves both in the events of the revolution and after the revolution, and in the early cases of the movement, when foreigners sought separatism, the people of Tabriz entered the stage and in the holy defense," said the Leader.
